History
The Northern Mississippi Jurisdictional Orchestra (NMJO) was founded in June 1992 by Ezra Howard. It began with eight players, which consisted of two flutes, two trumpets, one clarinet, two saxophones, and one French horn. The orchestra played its first two selections, "Available to You" and "I have a Testimony", at the United State Auxiliary Convention (USAC) in Clarksdale, Mississippi. The congregation enjoyed the orchestra mainly because of the anointing, but also because it provided something different in the service.
For about six years, the orchestra continued to perform once a year at USAC. Then in 1998, the orchestra added the Northern Mississippi Annual Holy Convocation to its performance schedule, all the while, continuing to grow in number.
In 1999, NMJO began to experience tremendous growth with members who were committed and dedicated to the orchestra. Many of the members who joined then are yet a vital part of the ministry today.
On November 16, 2002, the Northern MS Jurisdictional Orchestra traveled to Jackson, Mississippi and combined in a wonderful concert with the Aaron Baker Carter Memorial Orchestra under the direction of Mrs. Clara Davis.
In December 2002, the orchestra held its first Holiday tour. This was a memorable 3-night tour that included performances at St. Luke Church of God in Christ in Moorhead, Mississippi, St. Luke C.O.G.I.C. in Olive Branch, Mississippi and St. James C.O.G.I.C. in Ripley, Mississippi.
NMJO presently has over 75 members including a very capable staff and is looking forward to greater things as they continue to grow and perform under the anointing of the Lord. |
